This week, ELLE magazine looks at the effects of the menopause on our skin and asks three experts for their advice on how to care for it.

During menopause (absence of periods for 12 consecutive months), oestrogen production stops, leading to a drop in collagen and elastin production of up to 30%! These two proteins are responsible for keeping our skin firm. When they are lacking, the dermis becomes thinner, the skin is less plump and becomes dehydrated, wrinkles become more pronounced, the oval of the face sags, and brown spots appear more and more…

So what can be done? According to ELLE magazine, « the best strategy is to combine targeted treatments to boost collagen and elastin production with facial massages to tone the muscles ». Among the three professionals interviewed, Dr Sandra Texier, founder of Maison Magnifisens, recommends « fractional radiofrequency combined with microneedling, which is the leading treatment for stimulating and boosting collagen production and treating sagging skin. In just a few sessions, you can achieve excellent results in smoothing and redensifying tissue, restructuring facial contours and « smoothing out » the neck and décolleté. » Dr Sandra Texier also discusses the results of EMFace, hyaluronic acid injections and chemical peels, and offers some tips for a simple and effective daily routine, as well as nutritional advice.
