After summer, your skin needs special attention. Discover how to preserve and improve its quality, repair sun damage and restore a radiant complexion.
Every year, summer gives our skin a beautiful natural glow. But with the arrival of September, many of us notice a decrease in this glow, or even the appearance of a dull, tired complexion, acne that had subsided or even disappeared during the summer, or the appearance of pigmentation spots. This change is largely attributed to the effects of the sun on our skin.
Indeed, skin radiance is a delicate balance of interconnected factors such as hydration, natural exfoliation of dead skin cells, skin elasticity and collagen production, and even skin tone. The complexity of this phenomenon requires a multifactorial approach to maintain or restore it.
Medical and aesthetic solutions therefore aim to correct these various elements in order to restore them.
Skin reactions
Skin reactions to sun exposure are classified into two categories based on when they appear after sun exposure: there are immediate reactions, such as tanning and vitamin D synthesis, and there are delayed reactions that occur after sun exposure and are undesirable. It is the latter that we treat at Maison Magnifisens:
→ Under the action of UV rays, thickening of the cornea, which is the surface layer of the epidermis, can be observed. This process is called hyperkeratosis. Hyperkeratosis leads to an accumulation of sebum that cannot be properly removed. Acne reappears when the skin becomes thinner, with the appearance of blackheads and spots. This abnormality will be more pronounced the longer the exposure has been.
→ Under the effect of the sun’s rays, we also observe a process of dehydration of the epidermis, which accentuates the dull and tired appearance of the complexion, deepens wrinkles and fine lines, and causes the skin to feel uncomfortable.
→ Exposure to the sun can also cause the appearance of pigmentation spots. These are the result of an abnormal accumulation of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin, hair and eye colour. Melanin in the skin is produced by specific cells called melanocytes when stimulated by sunlight. When the skin is exposed to the sun’s ultraviolet rays, it reacts by producing more melanin to protect itself from damage. However, this response can become excessive and lead to areas of irregular pigmentation such as solar lentigines and melasma. Although these pigment spots are not generally harmful to health, they can have significant aesthetic implications and give the skin an aged, uneven and blotchy appearance.
Solutions to restore skin radiance
Aesthetic medicine offers a range of solutions to repair and even improve the skin’s radiance.
→ Chemical peels are particularly useful after the summer, as they help to improve the complexion. They are powerful tools for improving skin quality by exfoliating dead skin cells in a controlled manner. We can offer either a « superficial » peel to exfoliate the surface layer of the epidermis, or a « medium » peel that exfoliates down to the dermo-epidermal layer. Peels can be used to improve radiance and also treat signs of ageing, pigmentation spots, post-summer acne and acne scars caused by sun exposure.
We have several acid molecules at our disposal with possible combinations. We can tailor treatments to each skin type and its specific issues, as well as to each person’s desires. At Maison Magnifisens, we use several combinations of acids that allow us to treat each skin type in a tailored and progressive manner.
Right now, after summer, mandelic acid is very popular because it is gentle on all skin types and well tolerated. What’s more, it is versatile: it is effective at hydrating the skin, improving the appearance and radiance of the complexion, refining skin texture, and more. Finally, it can easily be combined with other acids such as lactic acid, glycolic acid, citric acid, phytic acid, and others.
Another advantage of peels is that they can be combined with other aesthetic medicine treatments. Patients often tolerate the after-effects well, as there is no need to take time off work or socialise, although peeling may occur for a few days as a side effect. The results are quickly visible in terms of a more radiant complexion. The protocol varies, with 1 to 4/6 sessions required.
→ The use of hyaluronic acid injections of different molecular weights in the dermis helps restore skin hydration, elasticity and tone. Hyaluronic acid is a polysaccharide naturally present in the human body whose primary function is to maintain proper tissue hydration. Hyaluronic acid injections are therefore very useful for restoring the skin’s hydration, elasticity and tone after the summer. This procedure is used on the face, neck and décolleté, as well as on the body, with two sessions spaced one month apart.
→ Jet Peel is a comprehensive treatment comprising several steps that restore a beautiful glow immediately. The technique used is barophoresis, which involves infusing active ingredients without injections, using air propulsion. During Jet Peel, you benefit from exfoliation with mandelic acid or glycolic acid at different concentrations, hydration with hyaluronic acid or CBD, vitamin C infusions for radiance, sebum secretion regulating products for acne, niacinamides, peptides, vitamins B5, and more.
The skin regains its beautiful radiance immediately! The recommended treatment plan varies from 1 to 4 sessions per month as an intensive treatment.
→ Microneedling and technology combining microneedling and fractional radiofrequency can be used to treat skin radiance, skin texture and other issues such as acne scars and sagging skin. These are revolutionary and effective techniques for triggering the skin’s natural regeneration process. Now is the ideal time to start these treatments, as they require avoiding sun exposure during the skin’s regeneration cycle.
The skin is a marvel of regeneration. It has the ability to repair itself and regain its lost radiance, particularly when stimulated by aesthetic medical solutions.
The key to restoring radiance lies in personalised treatments: we tailor each treatment to suit each individual’s skin and specific concerns.
And now is also a good time to remember that the sun’s rays can damage our skin! To avoid repeating the same mistakes next summer, don’t forget to take preventive measures (apply adequate sunscreen, limit your exposure time and avoid certain times of day, wear sunglasses, a hat or cap).
